Key Organisations

When forming The Exams Office, exams officers were consulted over the support they required, and the result is The Exams Office - a support functionality intended to meet the needs of the exams officer community.

The Exams Office:

  • only works with organisations/associations who perform a similar function to ours - supporting exams officers with practical support in their everyday role, saving exams officers time, and easing the pressure on exam centre budgets
  • produces and quality assures its' own documents and updates, and therefore provides day-to-day support for exams officers
  • is funded by the individuals who formed and run this support service, and therefore we can react quickly to the needs of our members and the wider exams officer community
  • has never received any government funding or monies from awarding bodies or any other exams-related organisation (After providing approximately £1m in funding to an exam officer support association between 2004-11, the DfE decided to no longer provide support for the exams officer community, as this funding was meant to deliver a self-sufficient support structure for exams officers. Therefore, The Exams Office was launched to fill the void left by government within a completely self-financing model)
  • works with key stakeholders such as awarding bodies and JCQ
  • does not criticise the work of other organisations
  • uses membership fees to enhance support for members based in the UK, or engaged in UK qualifications

The Exams Office forms partnerships with key stakeholders. We have partner agreements with OCRPearson/Edexcel, and Cambridge Assessment International Education.

OCR released the following statement to confirm our exciting partnership;

'As part of OCR's commitment to providing high quality support to the teaching and exam support staff in centres, we are pleased to announce we will be working in partnership with The Exams Office. This partnership will extend the existing range of support available to exam support staff and will help to ensure that this key role is fully informed in an ever changing environment. We are excited to be collaborating with The Exams Office and look forward to the year ahead.'

The Exams Office works with key stakeholders with the clear aim of supporting exams officers in their everyday role.

Below is a list of key organisations in the field of exams administration and management. We have listed these as key organisations as they are directly related to the support and information we provide.

The support we offer is unique and exams officers must decide for themselves which organisations they wish to join based on the support they require and what represents value for money for individual centre budgets.

If any organisation undertaking a similar supporting role for the exams officer community would like to discuss a collaboration with The Exams Office, please e-mail us at

The Exams Office would like to thank Pearson/Edexcel for their impartial, non-remunerated advice and voluntary support.

"As an international organisation working in over 160 countries, we appreciate that some of our administrative processes are different from those of exam boards that are members of JCQ. We are always looking for opportunities to both improve and align our processes where we can and to help schools manage the differences. By working with The Exams Office we hope to enhance the support and training opportunities we offer exams officers in the UK."

Janet Morris, Director, International Network for Cambridge Assessment International Education
